Sonora’s unique climate and terrain require robust water management solutions to protect residential foundations from seasonal heavy rains. Upstate Roofing recently completed a comprehensive exterior upgrade for a beautiful green-sided home nestled in the Sierra foothills. To properly divert water away from the property's sloped foundation, this project required much more than standard gutters—it demanded underlying structural attention, a precision downspout system, and a commitment to leaving the property pristine.

Project Challenges

Hillside homes in Sonora present unique access and installation challenges. When assessing this property, it was clear that the existing roofline had suffered structural wear that needed addressing before any new gutters could be safely mounted. Furthermore, the property featured a sloped, rocky landscape, a raised multi-level wooden deck, and existing exterior fixtures—such as a large brown chimney pipe and window AC units—that the new one-story downspout would have to carefully navigate around. Working safely on the sloped, rocky terrain to deliver materials and execute high-eave repairs required meticulous site management.

Our Solution

Upstate Roofing approached this project from the inside out. We first set up secure ladders and scaffolding to safely access the roofline, where we tore away the compromised sections. We performed vital structural repairs and laid down fresh re-sheeting and protective underlayment. Once the roof’s structural integrity was restored and the final product application was complete, we focused on water diversion.

We installed premium white covered gutters along the newly reinforced eaves to keep out falling debris. Next, we meticulously measured and installed the one-story downspout systems. The crisp white piping was secured flush against the green siding, expertly routed to bypass the home's exterior features and drop water safely past the raised deck and away from the foundation. Finally, to ensure the homeowners could immediately enjoy their upgraded exterior, we executed a complete material pick-up. We hauled away every piece of old wood, discarded metal, and packaging, leaving the rocky hillside yard spotless.

The transformation resulted in an exterior that is both visually striking and structurally secure. The crisp, clean lines of the new white covered gutters and downspouts provide a sharp, modern contrast against the home's classic green siding and striped window awnings. More importantly, the structural vulnerabilities have been eliminated. With a flawless, clog-free water diversion system actively protecting the home's perimeter, the homeowners now have total peace of mind against Sonora's winter weather.
