Project Challenges

The property featured varying roof slopes, ranging from a walkable 2/12 pitch to a steeper 7/12 pitch, requiring careful navigation during the tear-off phase. Upon stripping the old, degraded brown shingles with specialized removal tools, we exposed sections of damaged decking that lacked the structural integrity to support a new heavy-duty roofing system. Furthermore, the roof housed substantial HVAC equipment and numerous pipe penetrations that act as common failure points for leaks. Executing these structural repairs and stripping the roof without dropping hazardous nails and debris into the homeowner's yard required highly controlled site management.

Our Solution

Upstate Roofing operates with worker safety as our absolute highest priority. Before removing a single shingle, our technicians installed heavy-duty steel roof anchors directly into the structural framing. This allowed our crew to utilize full-body safety harnesses and lifelines while safely navigating the steeper pitches and operating heavy equipment. After safely tearing off the old materials down to the bare wood, we executed the necessary re-sheeting and structural repairs to create a flawless deck.

Our team then rolled out premium GAF underlayment, securing it properly to protect the new wood deck. We installed the GAF Timberline HDZ Reflector Series shingles, which are engineered to reflect solar heat and reduce residential cooling costs. To secure the roof penetrations, we installed custom lead pipe flashing and tightly integrated the new shingles and sheet metal around the large rooftop HVAC unit. We topped the peaks with TimberCrest® Premium SBS-Modified Ridge Cap Shingles for superior wind defense.
